Happy Hannukah! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, or Thanksgivikkah! Hannukah was a little overshadowed by Thanksgiving this year, but I couldn’t let the holiday pass without a celebratory cupcake obviously. This isn’t a recipe, but more of a fun and simple idea for some cute Hannukah cupcakes.
I found these fun cupcake liners at Sur La Table and then picked up small plastic dreidels and gelt. You could use any kind of cupcake and frosting, but I chose to make carrot cake cupcakes with maple cream cheese frosting. A lot of people find cream cheese frosting hard to decorate with because it is thinner than most frostings, so it often doesn’t hold a shape. A great trick is to add about 1 1/2 cups more confectioner’s sugar than the recipe normally calls for and then refrigerate the frosting for a few hours before piping it onto a cupcake.
To make the swirl I used a pastry bag fitted with a Wilton 1M open star tip. I then added blue sanding sugar, a piece of gelt and a dreidel and that’s it! Super easy and a really fun way to celebrate the holiday!
